Cringefest: Saturday night edition

  • Battery Point Community Hall 52 Hampden Road Battery Point, TAS, 7004 Australia (map)

The impassioned poetry of your youth, the scent of adolescent intensity, the Lynx, the loves, the fury, the vulnerability …

Cringefest invites you to crush on, and cringe on, your own youthful writing. Break out those poems and lyrics and intensely scrawled diaries of your youth and read them aloud.

These years, the years that by hook or crook you found your voice, are as much a part of you as what you ate for breakfast, it’s time to celebrate them … in front of a crowd.

Cringefest will be hosted by the formidable Rachel Edwards (aka Paige Turner) and Friday night sees ABC Hobart’s Ryk Goddard, The Age’s Melbourne Editor Jewel Topsfield, musician and writer Justin Heazlewood, writer, queen of puns Elizabeth Flux and more sharing their deepest, darkest and cringiest stories.

On Saturday night, we invite you to ransack the chest and the files that contain this work and share it with your nearest and dearest (oh, and a public audience!) Register your interest and submit your cringeworthy stories to kate@readtasmania.com.

If you need a little dutch courage, we’ll have a bar running during the event.

This is a FREE event as part of the ‘Weekend of Reading’ festival and due to the nature of the event, it is recommended that attendees be over the age of 18 (unless accompanied by an adult).
