Weekend of Reading FB Event Cover (1).png

A weekend to celebrate reading and all its benefits.

Over three days at the Battery Point Community Hall, we will be creating a space for reading, learning and sharing. There will be discussions on the importance of books, libraries, bookstores, readers and writers.

We will not shy away from the elephant in the room – almost half the population of Tasmania is functionally illiterate – and we acknowledge that promoting the benefits of reading, writing and communication is only the beginning of transforming this unfortunate situation.

This will be a space open to anyone and everyone and we can't wait to share more details in the weeks to come. All sessions, apart from workshops, will be free to attend and you can come and go as you please.

The festival will open at 6pm on Friday 11 October 2019 with the announcement of the shortlists for the 2019 Tasmanian Premier’s Literary Prizes.
